Fried Green Tomatoes served with Remoulade Sauce

Fried Green Tomatoes at The Boll Weevil Cafe.
Reaching 30 blogs on Vegetarian and Cooking has to be commemorated with a special recipe --- what better than fried green tomatoes?

The best fried green tomatoes I ever had were served in Augusta, Georgia at The Boll Weevil Cafe (they also serve some tasty tomato apple soup not to mention decadent cake).

One of the fine advantages to living in the country is having your own personal garden, so when I saw these beautiful green tomatoes I knew it was time to break out the frying pan.

The kind of sauce you serve with fried green tomatoes is just as important as the main ingredient itself -- The Boll Weevil serves them with a spicy horseradish sauce I chose a remoulade which is a quintessential condiment in places such as New Orleans.

Ingredients:Fried Green Tomatoes
-Green Tomatoes
-Egg
-Flour
-Panko Bread Crumbs
Set up with flour, egg and bread crumbs like for frying zucchini.

Fry the green tomatoes in a screaming hot pan.
Remoulade Sauce
-
1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
-1/4 cup mustard
-1 Tbsp sweet paprika
-1-2 teaspoons Cajun or Creole seasoning (I used cayenne pepper)
-2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
-1 teaspoon pickle juice (dill or sweet, your preference)
-1 teaspoon hot sauce
-1 large clove garlic, minced and smashed

Put all of the ingredients into a bowl and stir.
Refrigerate for a few hours before use.

Serve the fried green tomatoes with the remoulade sauce.

Yum!

These fried green tomato were so great -- the spicy remoulade was perfect for this summertime delicacy.
